A sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of an ultra modern Astroturf has been held at Sunyani in the Bono Region of Ghana
The ceremony was jointly performed by Hon. Kwasi Ameyaw Kyeremeh, Member of Parliament (MP) for Sunyani East, Hon. Ansu Kumi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Sunyani and Nana Kusi Boadum I, Chief of Penkwase.
The project is an initiative of the MP and is being sponsored by Bui Power Authority and it is expected to provide recreational space to promote sporting activities, especially football in the municipality and the region as a whole.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Ameyaw Kyeremeh, noted that Wembley Constructions Limited is the contractor to execute the project and is expected to be completed within six months. He said the ultra-modern artificial football pitched is expected to have a 500 seating stand, changing rooms and floodlights among other basic amenities. The MP continued that, the Sunyani Municipal and the Bono Region has contributed its quota to sports in Ghana and that the project is long overdue.
Hon. Ameyaw Kyeremeh said that, sports plays a vital role in youth development and expressed the hope that, the project which forms part of his efforts to expand sports infrastructure in the Municipality, would enhance the discovery and development of football and other sport talents in the region as a whole. The MP commended Bui Power Authority and the government for the project
Hon. Ansu Kumi MCE for Sunyani commended the MP for the project which will also give a facelift to the Municipality and called on the traditional authorities to support the contractors for them to execute the project in the stipulated time
