The Sunyani Municipal Assembly through the People living With Disability (PWD) Fund disbursed cash and bought some equipment for PWDs in the municipality on October, 24th 2022. Hon. Ansu Kumi, the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and the Social Welfare Director, Madam Belinda Osei-Mensah empowered people with disability skill training that will help the members preserve their food for a longer time. The MCE stated that people living with disability are about 7% of the total population of Ghana and that at any stage in life anyone can go through what they are going through so we should help them so that they do not stand at the roadside.
Madam Belinda Osei-Mensah the Social Welfare and Community Department Director indicated that, the skill training is to give members skills that will help increase the shelf life of foods and urged the beneficiaries to continue to ensure personal hygiene in the process. She then deliberated on how to use drying method of preservation to preserve food like cassava, onions, garlic, plantain and tomatoes.
She indicated that most foodstuffs in the region come in seasons and are cheaper when they are in season. The preservation would therefore let them last longer. The members participated effectively in the training and were delighted to be part of the program.
